Diablo II More Than Likely Getting Remastered
I think as a coder this might be good or bad. I have coded games for several titles back in the day. So, I can say I have to agree with David Brevik about being careful when doing remastering a game. A prime example of this is with movies like Clash Of The Titans. I personally didn't like the new version of the classic movie. but a lot of the new generation liked it. It was totally more detailed, fulfilling and the story told in depth on the original. You have to factor in the time-frame, development tools, and other things in order to not damage the originality of the game. Remasters do border on the end of just being a new game basically the way I see it. I don't think remastering Diablo II will bring back the way we felt on Baal runs. The young bucks might not call it that let alone even see what we saw then. So, veterans of classic Diablo do not get your hopes of reminiscing on the old feelings you had.
The only way I see this working is to take the old engine and upgrade the graphics end of it. Recompile the original that way you still have the same fundamental programming behind it. Instead of remastering just come out with an updated version of the original Diablo II (shaders etc and all). I kind of wonder who has the original game engine or code of Diablo II? LOL, David just push the game engine already to the graphics of today damn it. Well, btw, I just saw that someone is attempting to do this already via modification (mod) by one individual called eGods. The thing here is it is a modification being made in Starcraft Engine as a mod. I was going to write a separate piece on this cool look reboot of the game but why not talk about it here. I will also show the alpha that was released in the summer of 2016 alpha stage. Who knows how much more this guy has finished now that we are in the middle of summer of 2017. Remember, this is a mod for Starcraft 2 not a standalone. Check this video out below. Now, Blizzard main company might be visiting a real remake for Diablo II down the road. We shall see what might take place. Either way, I play the mod and the remake from Blizzard it has my vote.
The Curse of Tristram Destruction's end the mod remake is supposed to be really happening. So far that I have seen no activity or information from eGods about it since 2016. The video of this great happenings is all we got. If anything I rather put my money on the game company to do the remake anyways. eGods has a fund raiser page but I am not too sure if I trust it. He has placed a fund raiser at Patreon in which I haven't even heard of this site until I did my research on this guy. Well, it is up to you if you want to fall for this or not. Even on this guys fund page someone even asking if an Alpha is available yet with no reply from eGods. Anyways, I think eGod started and did great job with the Starcraft II Mod for Diablo II but is failing to keep people updated if this was something for real.
Well, that is about it. What do you think about this article? Let me know, what you think they should do to make it happen in the comments below.
